Compensation for a Taxi Driver in an Accident

I would like to know if it is possible to claim compensation for a taxi driver in an accident. I was recently driving home from an eight-hour shift when near my house a van changed lanes in front of me without signalling, forcing me to brake. As a result of the action I suffered a severe whiplash injury, for which I was treated at the hospital. I have not been able to work since.

You may be entitled to compensation for a taxi driver in an accident if you are able to prove that the driver of the van that forced you to brake was responsible for you sustaining your injuries. Road users owe one another a ‘duty of care’ – meaning that they must take appropriate precautions to protect other road users at all times. If you can prove that the driver of the van failed in their duty of care toward you, you may be able to claim for compensation.

In order to be eligible to claim compensation for a taxi driver in an accident, you must first be able to produce a medical report of your injury. It is likely that you were issued with this before you were discharged from hospital – if not, you should contact the hospital immediately and request that a copy is sent out to you.

Speaking with a solicitor should be high on a claimant’s list of priorities after being involved in an accident for which they were not at fault. A solicitor will be able to tell you what evidence you will need to gather in order to maximise your chances of being awarded a favourable settlement. It is likely that CCTV evidence and witness statements will be among the types of evidence he will advise you to gather. Some vehicles have dashboard cameras built in or installed for such instances; if you do, the footage captured on it may prove useful.

Locating the driver may also prove difficult, however if you have a dashboard camera, or were able to procure CCTV evidence, you may be able to make out their registration number, which will help you to track them down. It is many drivers’ first instinct to note a driver’s registration number when such an incident arises.

Compensation for a taxi driver in an accident is always best pursued with the help of a personal injury claims solicitor who will be able to assess your claim on its merits and guide you through the process.
